That Perfect Day
I've been in a rut lately. Perhaps it's the weather - not quite spring, yet winter decided to vacation in the south. Perhaps it's the "in-between" season at work - not quite wedding season, yet I'm not really feeling any side projects. Maybe it's the fact that one chapter of my life is coming to end, and while I'm excited for what lies ahead, I'm just not as excited as I'd like to me.
Winter Blues. That's what it really boils down to.
Today, though. OH TODAY! What a perfect day! We woke up to the sun streaming through the curtains, birds chirping, and it was 58 degrees (on FEBRUARY THIRD!). Almost immediately, R was out on his bike, taking advantage of these last few days of vacation and thanking the weather gods for this burst of beautiful weather. Not long after, I set out on my own bicycle journey down to the lake. It wasn't long, or hard, or rushed. Just a perfect lazy ride, weaving in and out of the wind and basking in the warm morning sun. And wouldn't you know it, I ran into R :) Nothing like running into your favorite person while enjoying the simple pleasure of riding your bike.
When I got home, I took each of the boys out for their walks, again, taking in as much of the sun as I could. Vitamin D does a body good. By the time I got back, R had returned and showered. We went to my favorite breakfast spot before setting out on some errands. I'm weird and like errands. Especially when they include trips to the garden shop for new bird feeders, the pet supply shop, and grocery store.
Once home, we played with Seamus in the back yard, set up the feeders, and opened the entire house to air out. We've got salmon in the fridge for dinner and chocolate chip cookies in the oven. It's only mid afternoon and already this has been the most perfect day. Just what I needed to pull myself out of that rut.
